Winnipeg

8/2/22 – Please welcome Winnipeg! Winnipeg was turned over to rescue by her breeder because of orthopedic issues. She is five months old and also has cherry eyes that will need to be repaired. She will see the orthopedic specialist for evaluation in a few weeks.

9/14/22 – Winnipeg saw the orthopedic specialist today…
Exam Findings: Grade 2/5 LF lameness when walking with marked external rotation of limb at level of scapula during stance phase. Lateral bowing of elbow with palpable prominent lateral radial head. Normal, non-painful left elbow ROM.

Diagnosis: Left congenital radial head luxation

Medications: Consider joint supplements such as glucosamine/chondroitin and fish oil
Recommendations: Her gait abnormality and lameness are due to a developmental defect in her left elbow. The top of the radius slipped out of the joint when she was younger, resulting in a partial elbow dislocation and malformation. There is no effective treatment for this issue, but most dogs have a good quality of life in spite of it. She will have some arthritis in that joint that may require treatment later in life.

10/31/22 – Winnipeg has been adopted.  Congrats Winnipeg and Loudermilk family!
