1/25/18: Please welcome Captain! He joins us from Cleveland Animal Hospital. He was picked up as a stray by animal control and turned over to Cleveland Animal Hospital for immediate vet care. When no one came looking for him he joined GEBR. We know he has severe ear infections and his ear canals appear to be blocked. He will need a consult with the specialist and will likely need total ear canal ablation on both ears. He has been diagnosed with dry eye and will need prescription eye for life. He appears to have some vision loss because his dry eye has gone untreated for so long. He needs to be neutered, have his palate shortened and have his teeth cleaned. He is also heartworm positive and he will have his treatment once he recovers from both of his surgeries.
He is six years old. He likes dogs and older children. At this time we do not know how he feels about cats.
Update 1/29/18: Captain was neutered, had his palate shortened and had his teeth cleaned today.
Update 2/12/18: Captain had his total ear canal ablation surgery today and all went well. He will start his heartworm treatment in a few weeks once he recovers from surgery.
Update 3/13/18: Captain started his heartworm treatment today.
Update 4/5/18: Captain completed his heartworm treatment today and moved back to his foster home. Unfortunately one of his ear is still giving him some issues. There is always a 20% chance with this surgery that there will be complications and it will need to be repeated. We are going to try to clear up the issue with medication first but if we do not succeed with medication them we will move forward with another surgery.
Update 7/2/18: Captain saw the specialist today for another total ear canal ablation surgery. Hopefully this surgery will do the trick. We will know within two months if there will continue to be issues. Fingers crossed for his sweet old man, he has been through so much and we just want to do everything we can to get him feeling 100%.
Update 7/24/18: Captain has his recheck on his ear with the specialist and so far so good! We also tested his thyroid and begane medication for his low thyroid issues. And we did food and environment allergy testing. We switched his food and started him on allergy medication.
Update 10/30/18: Captain is loving life in his foster home with his foster brother. He is happy, healthy (well as healthy as he will ever be) and looking for her forever family!
Update 5/10/19: Captain had a consult with the cardiologist today. His heart isn’t working as good as it should, but we started some medications and will recheck again in a week. Hopefully we can keep him comfy and happy for a long time.
June 12, 2019: Captain crossed over the rainbow bridge today. Please keep his family in your thoughts.
