2/16/21 – Please welcome Xeena. Xeena is an emergency intake that has been is paralyzed since Thursday. She is on the way now to get an MRI and we are hoping she is a candidate for corrective surgery and that there is chance this sweet pup can walk again. Her onwner are not able to afford the testing she needs ot keep up with the medical care she will need so they asked us to take her into rescue so she can get the care she needs.
Tuesday afternoon update: Xeena is stable and will be having an MRI tomorrow morning to see if she is a candidate for surgery. Her bloodwork and chest x rays look ok but they are having trouble expressing her bladder. She has a catheter now for the time being. Send positive thoughts her way and we will update everyone tomorrow when we know more.
2/17/21 – Unfortunately, Xeena is not a candidate for surgery. Since her injury is past the initial 24-hour period she went from a 50% chance of having a successful surgery to a 10% chance. The specialist feels it is not in her best interest to move forward with surgery. She will move into a foster home with pain medication and steroids and we will look into therapy options for her. She can defecate on her own but she will needs to have her bladder expressed since she cannot empty it on her own. We are hopeful that she can have her catheter removed tomorrow morning and move into her foster home. We will do whatever we can to give her a comfortable life.
2/19/21 – Xeena left the vet and headed to her foster home. She will be living with a vet tech and will be able to go to work with her and start laser therapy tomorrow. We are hopeful this will give her some relief.
3/20/21 – Xeena is adjusting well to the paralyzed life style; has a stroller, some wheels and a new family that loves her unconditionally.
