Lemon

8/31/23 – Please welcome Lemon! Lemon was turned over to us from the shelter because she needs emergency surgery. We are heading to the emergency clinic now to address a vaginal prolapse.

9/1/23 – Lemon had surgery today and all went well. Once she was under anesthesia is was determined that she has vaginal hyperplasia not a vaginal prolapse. The surgeon moved forward with spay surgery but determined that it was not in her best interest to remove the swollen vaginal tissue. We suspect that the tissue will decrease in size now that she is spayed. We will monitor this and keep the tissues lubricated throughout the day. We will give her some time and then evaluate her again in a few months. She also had her palate shortened and her nares widened.

11/14/23 – Lemon saw the surgeon for a follow up visit today. The vaginal tissue has decreased a lot and remains healthy. We will continue to monitor and lubricate the tissue.

3/15/24 – Lemon saw the surgeon for another follow up visit today. The vaginal tissue continues to decrease and remains healthy but there is a small donut shaped area of tissue still present. But she has minimal skin of her vulva to cover the site so it doesn’t stay when manipulated. The donut of excessive tissue is very close to her urethral papilla, so the surgeon does not recommend trying to remove the tissue surgically. Her vulva needs to stretch out to cover the site, but her conformation is such that she does not have as much skin as typical and her vulva is very vertical, which means it is easy for this tissue to be visible. It is possible the tissue may never reduce to a normal size, which is ok medically but she will look “different” back there.
We are currently working on a food change and addressing some allergy issues.

5/1/15 – Lemon has responded well to the food change and we think her allergies are under control.

9/1/24 – Lemon is doing great in her  foster home but she is still searching for his perfect forever home! She would blend well in any home as long as her owners don’t mind a tiny amount of daily maintenance on her “lady bits”.
