5/9/22 – Please welcome Chester and Kahlua! These boys were turned over to us by a breeder because of heart murmurs. They are litter mates born on March 15, 2022. They will see the cardiologist soon for echocardiograms to diagnose their heart issues.
5/20/22 – The boys had echocardiograms today.
Chester has perimembranous ventricular septal defect; moderate to severe valvular pulmonic stenosis; mild tricuspid valvular dysplasia.
Kahlua has non-restrictive perimembranous ventricular septal defect; moderate valvular pulmonic stenosis.
He feels that neither need medication or surgery at this time and should be seen again in a few months. We will share these reports with the cardiology team at UGA for review as well.
9/1/22 – Chester and Kahlua will see the cardiologist in January 2023 for evaluation and surgery (if needed). They will not be cleared for adoption until that time. The will see the cardiologist in January 2023 for further evaluation.
1/17/23 – Chester and Kahlua saw the cardiologist for there follow up echocardiograms.
Chester – it has been confirmed that he does have moderate pulmonary valve stenosis and a left to right restrictive ventricular septal defect. The cardiologist has recommended medical management with atenolol for now with a recheck echocardiogram in four months. If things continue to go well for him on this medication then he will not need surgical intervention.
Kahlula – it has been confirmed that he does have severe pulmonary valve stenosis, left-to-right restrictive ventricular septal defect, and additionally found evidence of mild aortic valve stenosis. The cardiologist has recommended medical management with atenolol for now and a balloon valvuloplasty surgery in five weeks. He will see the cardiologist for a recheck echocardiogram three months after surgery.
