Fatty – March 16th, 2021

12/26/19: Please welcome Fatty! His owner turned him over to the shelter today and they called us to come get him. He desperately needs his teeth clean and will likely need some decaying teeth pulled. His mouth smells horrible even from a distance. He is struggling to breath and needs to have his palate shortened. We will also neuter him and check to see if his saccules need to be removed and if his nostrils need to be widened. He drags his back-left leg so we will also do x-rays to see if we can determine what exactly is going on. We will run blood work before surgery to make sure all is ok. Of course, putting a dog under at his age is a higher risk but we feel strongly that he will have a better quality of life once he can breathe better. And unfortunately, he is also heartworm positive. Due to his age and the stress fast kill treatment can cause, we will do a slow kill treatment over six months.

1/2/20: Fatty had his surgery today and all went well! He was neutered, had his palate shortened, had his saccules removed, had his nostrils widened, had eight teeth extracted and the remaining teeth cleaned. His x-rays showed arthritis but nothing else obvious with his leg. We will start him on medication in two weeks for his leg and monitor it closely over the next few weeks.

3/11/20:  Fatty has been adopted.  Congrats Fatty, Robin and Dave!
