1/7/15: Please welcome Rey! Rey was recently taking in by a family but one of the family member is allergic to her so they called us to take her in. From what we know Rey spent the last three months with a woman that found her in an abandoned house. The house had been empty for three months. She was found in the house with a few bowls of water and a large bag of dog food that had been emptied onto the floor. We are not sure how she survived those three months all alone but we are glad she did and that she found her way to GEBR!
She has mange, a yeast infection and a bacteria infection. We began treating her with medications and she will be getting twice weekly medicated baths. She will see Dr Rush again in two weeks for a check up. As you can see in the photos her skin in extremely pink and she is swollen. Her skin is actually not that hard to the touch. She has a lot of hair loss but the hair that does she does have is nice and soft. We are told she recently went through heat. Once her skin clears up she will be spayed.
You can tell she is uncomfortable but other than that she is doing well. She does not scratch herself or rub her self against things. She loves to be held and cuddled with. She is interested in interacting with her current foster siblings Chunk, Meaty and Petie. She is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping. Of course she pees wherever she wants but we are working on that.
We believe she is about 8 months old. She is good with dogs, cats and kids.
Please understand that we are not currently taking adoption applications for her. She has a long road ahead of her and we need to focus on her recovery for the time being.
Update 1/10/15: Rey has only been a few days but she is already feelinb better!
Update 2/5/15: Rey has been with us almost a month and she looks and feels 100% better. She goes back to the vet next week for a check up. She still pees wherever she wants but who cares. And she loks to play with Petie and Chunk!
Update 3/6/15: Rey is mange free! She had spay and entropian surgery today and all went well. She will be adopted once she recovers from surgery.
Update 5/29/15: Rey has come a long way in five months. We are happy to report she has made a full recovery from her mange and other infections and that she has been adopted! Congrats Rey, Bogey, Zeus, Amanda and Bryan!
