12/15/23 – Please welcome Keowee! Keowee and six other dogs were found in a home with no humans, no electricity, no running water and no food. Animal control was able to locate the owner of the dogs and luckily the owner did the right thing and signed the dogs over to them. We are not certain how long the dogs were left alone.
12/28/23 – Since coming to rescue Keowee has had diarrhea. We started treating her for IBS. After treating this, doing blood work, x-rays and an ultrasound we also confirmed she has micro vascular hepatic disease. Which basically means she has an small, underdeveloped liver. Her IBS is under control but there is no medical fix for an underdeveloped liver. We expect her to have a few great years then at some point her liver will start to fail and detoxify her body. Moving forward she will need her bloodwork checked every 6 months. Once her liver starts to slow down, she may benefit from prescription food and liver supplements to help prolong her liver function.
5/1/24 – Keowee had surgery today and all went well. She was spayed, had her palate shortened, her nates widened, and her teeth cleaned.
8/22/24 – Keowee had her bloodwork checked and a repeat ultrasound today. We are happy to report her bloodwork looks great and she has no negative changes in her liver. Aside from a small liver you would never know she has anything wrong with her, she is happy, healthy and enjoying life!
