Hermione – May 30th, 2020

3/5/20: Please welcome Hermione! She joins us from Madison Oglethorpe Animal Services. She was picked up as a stray and when no one came looking for her she was able to join the rescue. She needs to be vaccinated, spayed, have her palate shortened, have her teeth cleaned, have a fatty tumor removed from her paw and have a mammary tumor removed. We are currently treating an upper respiratory infection, ear infection, skin infection, and allergy issues. Unfortunately, she is also heartworm positive. She will have surgery once her infections clear up and then she will begin heartworm treatment. We have diagnosed her with dry eye and started treating this with cyclosporine eye drops.

3/17/20: Hermione has been spayed, had her palate shortened, had her teeth cleaned, and had a tumor removed. She will have heartworm treatment when she recovers from her surgery. We are waiting on the biopsy results from her mammary tumor. It’s a lot, but this is the start of a new beginning for this sweet bulldog.

3/24/20: We got the biopsy results today and unfortunately is looks like lymphoma. We will do x rays and an ultrasound to see if it has spread.

3/26/20: We got terrible news today; Hermione as enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen. That means the cancer is spreading. We are not going to move forward with heartworm treatment, instead we will give her medications help slow down the spread and give her the best life for the time she has left with us. It is extremely sad and disappointing when we can not save every single dog in our care. But we are committed to keeping her happy for as long as we can.

May 30, 2020: Hermione lost her battle with cancer and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Rest In Peace Hermione.
