Brewzer – March 10th, 2014

Meet Brewzer, a 6 year old male, owner surrender. Brewzer’s story is one we have heard all too often. His family had to make the tough decision to surrender after a job loss. Unfortunately, Brewzer got sick in the middle of this crisis and his vet bill was $500.00. Even worse, the vet called back with more devastating news…his ear cultures were positive for MRSA!!!! This family, already struggling, simply could not afford to provide the medical care that Brewzer would require.

Update:

Brewzer is a fantastic, easy going and courteous male. He can still play in bullie fashion, just sleeps a bit more than those younger whippersnappers. He isn’t crate trained because, well he simply doesn’t need a crate. He is completely and reliably potty trained. He walks well on a leash.

Update:

We are still waiting for the most recent vet records and ear culture reports. He also has an eye infection and possibly dry eye. His vision was significantly impaired on arrival to rescue but has improved considerably with frequent cleanings, moisture and eye ointment. His ears do look infected but not too terribly bad; they have also improved with antibiotic ear drops. He has a rash on his chest and wrinkles that is responding to cleanings and pampering. When we receive the actual culture reports we will proceed with further treatment of the MRSA, which could be extensive and expensive.

Update: Don’t let this boys age scare you, he is still very active and doesn’t appear to have any issues with mobility. He loves to romp and play, he craves attention. Since he is reportedly MRSA positive we must keep him apart from the rest of the bunch but all indications are that he can’t wait to join the chaos.

Update 12/22/10: His ears are completely healed.  He does have dry eye and will need to be on daily eye drops for the rest of his life.  He is a gentle giant who appreciated love and attention.

Update 01/19/11: Sweet Brewzer was diagnosed with dry eye and is now getting daily eye drops.  He continues to do well in his foster home and enjoys being around children, even gentle enough for small children.

March 10, 2014: We lost one of our precious older boys this past Monday. Brewzer has been with us for the last few years. He had a history of MRSA, arthritis, skin allergies and really bad eyes. Because of his multiple medical issues and the fact that he had a loving foster family, we made Brew Brew a permanent foster and he was able to stay with the family he had grown to love. Brewzer was diagnosed with heart failure in December. With the help of his loving family, Brewzer battled his disease bravely until he didn’t have the strength to continue the fight. Brewzer was a gem, one in a million and the ultimate southern gentleman. Thank you for taking such good care of him Joe, Missy and Niyla. He loved every minute of his time with you. And Niyla, no matter where you go or what you do, you will always have a guardian angel watching over you. You meant as much to Brewzer as he meant to you.

Please keep Joe, Missy and Niyla in your thoughts and prayers as they travel through their grief.
